Dev Scenario Docs Beta
Getting started / Quickstart

Quickstart

Write and run your first flow on an Android emulator or iOS simulator in about five minutes.

1. Install and open the app

Download Dev Scenario for macOS, Windows or Linux. Your free trial starts the first time you open it.

2. Connect a device

Start an emulator or simulator, or plug in a phone. It appears in the device picker at the top of the window.

Note — physical iPhones need Xcode and a developer team ID. See the setup guide.

3. Write a flow

Every command is listed in the command reference. Create login.yaml and paste:

login.yaml
launchApp:
androidAppId: com.acme.shop
iOSAppId: com.acme.shop.ios
tapOn: "Sign in"
inputText: "@username"
tapOn: "Continue"
assertVisible: "Welcome back"

4. Run it

Press Run. Each step turns green as it passes. If one fails, the run report opens on that step with its screenshot.

5. Branch on device state

Use if to run steps only when a permission is allowed or denied. Combine checks with && and ||.

stores.yaml
tapOn: "Stores near me"
if (location == denied) {
assertVisible: "Enable location"
tapOn: "Open settings"
}
if (location == allowed || camera == allowed) {
assertVisible: "Stores near you"
}

Next: faster runs and network logs

Everything above works on any build, with no changes to your app. When you want Espresso-speed runs or to see and mock the app's network calls, add the debug-only libraries — see how Dev Scenario drives your app.
